Code of Ethics & Community Standards
The Cantonese Language Teachers Association (CantoLTA) is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and professional environment for all our members. Our Code of Ethics & Community Standards is founded on core values that guide our interactions, decision-making, and professional conduct.
Our Foundational Values
Our values are centered on our commitment to our community. We believe in acting with integrity and transparency, and we are dedicated to fostering an environment of shared responsibility and collaboration. In practice, this means:
-
Fostering Member Growth: Our primary commitment is to the professional success and development of our members. We strive to provide a platform that supports their work as instructors, content developers, and creators.
-
Mission Focus and Impartiality: We prioritize the communal mission of advancing Cantonese language education. Decisions and actions within CantoLTA must be based on objective standards and benefit the community as a whole, never being motivated by private gain or personal favor.
-
Collaborative Spirit: We share knowledge and resources freely, supporting each other's professional growth and the advancement of Cantonese language education as a whole.
-
Integrity and Transparency: We act honestly and openly in all our professional dealings, building trust with our members and the wider community.
-
Respectful Conduct: We treat every individual with dignity and respect, valuing diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Harassment, discrimination, and personal attacks are strictly prohibited.
Community Standards
To uphold these values, all members are expected to adhere to the following standards:
-
Professionalism: Maintain professional behavior in all CantoLTA-related activities, including online forums, events, and in the marketplace.
-
Financial Integrity and Fair Dealing: Engage in fair and honest practices in all financial dealings and marketplace transactions. Accurately represent the price, quality, and scope of services, and resolve any disputes with fellow members promptly and professionally.
-
Respect for Intellectual Property: Respect the copyrights and intellectual property of others. Do not share proprietary information or materials without proper authorization.
-
Confidentiality: Protect the privacy and confidentiality of fellow members and our community.
-
Constructive Communication: Engage in discussions in a positive and constructive manner. Disagreements should be handled with respect and professionalism.
-
Compliance: Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as with CantoLTA's policies.
Reporting and Accountability
Maintaining the integrity of CantoLTA is a shared responsibility. Any member who observes or experiences a violation of these standards is expected to report it.
All reports should be submitted promptly and confidentially to the President via President@cantolta.org.
Violations will result in a formal review and may lead to disciplinary action, including the suspension or termination of membership.
